Music Makers I (Ages 4 1/2 - 6 Years)

30 week session

The goal of the Music Makers Class is Music Literacy: Being able to hear what you see and see what your hear.  In this introductory class, children will become familiar with both the sound and the look of basic rhythmic and tonal patterns, building blocks of the musical language.

The class includes singing, creative and structured movements, playing instruments and ensemble work, ear training and guided listening. Using themes taken from the child's home environment and natural surroundings, Music Makers Classes present a developmentally sound approach to music literacy that builds symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, and self-expression.

Whether it is his or her first year of Musikgarten or a continuation of the Musikgarten experience, allow your child this year of preparation to ensure his or her success in future music-making activities.

Parents attend the last 10 minutes of class, to learn about the child’s progress, and how to encourage musical learning at home.

Music Makers II (Ages 5 1/2 - 7 Years)

30 week session

This class is perfectly designed for 1st and 2nd graders, and is a wonderful follow-up to Music Makers I. In this class, children explore the music, dances and stories of different cultures. As always, the key ingredients are singing, listening, playing instruments, lots of movement, and tonal and rhythm patterns. Through echoing patterns, the children will build a vocabulary of musical phrases which they can recognize aurally and visually, which leads to an understanding of musical notation. At the end of the year, the children will be introduced to the keyboard, using the same method they'll use in Music Makers: At the Keyboard next year!

Parents attend the last fifteen minutes of class, to learn more about the child’s progress, and how to encourage musical learning at home.
